Today, the Authority in partnership with IFAD and FSD Kenya, launched the SACCO Remittance Toolkit, a practical guide to support SACCOs in designing, launching and scaling cross-border remittance services.
This toolkit provides practical guidance aligned with good business practice, enabling SACCOs to build stronger internal control systems, enhance service delivery and competitively position themselves within the growing remittance market.
With Kenya receiving nearly US$5 billion in remittances in 2024, the sector remains vital to households, rural communities and economic stability. SACCOs facilitated over 7 million transactions worth KES 17.46 billion, yet only a small portion of international remittances flows through SACCO channels, highlighting a significant opportunity for growth.
While addressing delegates, SASRA CEO, Mr. David Amiani Sandagi, noted the opportunity for SACCOs to leverage cross-border remittances and position themselves as trusted international remittance providers. Other dignitaries present included FSD Kenya CEO, Ms. Tamara Cook, and IFAD Kenya Country Director, Ms. Mariatu Kamara.
Through this initiative, SASRA continues to champion institutional strengthening, innovation and sustainable growth within the SACCO subsector, while enhancing compliance. Access the toolkit here
